Low carbon business action in Brazil

The present project is one of the implementation actions promoted through the Partnership Instrument (PI), that operationalizes the Joint Action Plan - III (2015-2017), under the EU-Brazil Strategic Partnership.

The overarching theme of the Low-Carbon Business Action is to contribute to sustainable development and greening of Brazilian industries through the adoption of low emission and energy efficiency technologies in selected areas.

The successful implementation of the Project is also expected to enhance industrial technology cooperation between Brazilian SME and EU technology suppliers with regards to low emission technologies.

To meet this overall objective, an effective matchmaking between Brazilian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and European technology providers shall be conducted in targeted sectors in multiple locations in Brazil.

The matchmaking shall result in clear commitments for strategic commercial cooperation, expressed through signed Cooperation Partnership agreements. In a second phase, these strategic cooperations shall materialise in concrete joint project proposals that lead to commercial relations and transactions. The sustainability of the project interventions of phase 1 will be measured by the sustained partnerships that arise from the matchmaking and the concrete proposals the Project generated.

This is achieved by a set of activities and results, structured in the following three components:

1.  Mapping of low emission initiatives in targeted sectors in Brazil (promoted by Brazilian or EU sponsors) to identify technology needs and gaps in order to avoid duplication of ongoing efforts. Identify potential financing instruments that could fund the implementation of the bankable proposals to be elaborated;

2. Identification and mobilization of potential, interested partners in Brazil and Europe in the targeted sectors resulting in Declarations of Interest in cooperating with European counterparts;

3. Organisation of matchmaking activities, including screening of candidates, virtual online matchmaking sessions and matchmaking mission in Brazil, resulting in formalised Cooperation Partnership agreements. Definition and implementation of an information campaign.
