Market Study on COLOMBIA
Colombia is becoming a major destination for global investment for the past ten years. It is considered as one of the best countries in Latin America for business.
This Market Study provides relevant and updated information to support Portuguese entrepreneurs and investors in the decision-making process for internationalization in this country.
The study starts with a short characterization of Colombia, concerning geography, population, administrative organization and economy. Considering the growth that occurs in some sectors, namely at Agriculture, Livestock, Industry, Construction, Trade, Financial Sector and Social Services, it points out the growth of demand and provides some relevant data on the Balance of Payments and Trade.
It focuses on the existing business environment, in particular regarding the procedures required to start a business there, obtain a legal building permit or a property registration, the period of time needed to complete those processes and also provides information’s related to taxes, business procedures, among others.
Regarding the commercial relations between both countries, it should be noted that, from 2010 to 2014, the exports from Portugal to Colombia five-fold increase, while imports doubled. On the other hand, during the considerd period, the Portuguese companies who export for that country have also doubled, reflecting a positive evolution which “is far from exhausting the opportunities of the Portuguese products in the Colombian market”.
Therefore, the Market Study highlights the possibilities to expand Portuguese products, by identifying those exported from Portugal with greater market potential for sales in the market mentioned above.
From the identification of about six dozen products which presents a high growth sales potential, the Study present an individual analysis concerning the competition that the Portuguese products face in this geographical area. Thus the aim is to provide to entrepreneurs a better understanding of the competition on international market segments and be able to identify the main existing prices trends.
This Market Study is promoted by the Industrial Portuguese Association; the Technical Coordination was made by Rui Miguel Santos with Susana Sarmento’s collaboration.
It was presented last April in Lisbon by CESO's Vice President, Rui Miguel Santos. He guided a new presentation in May at the International Building and Construction Fair - TEKTONIKA.
In recent years, CESO has published Market Studies in several countries, namely on those with Portuguese official language, but also no India (Delhi, Mumbai and Goa) and Guinea Golf.
